Model 614 - Process Refractometer

The Model 614 Process Refractometer is continually being enhanced with additional features. It was first introduced in the fall 1998. Since that introduction we have added several additional features:

Extended probe sensing head. Designed specifically to handle the unique measuring characteristics of the Sugar industry. These extended probes can provide accurate measurement of seed point in the harsh sugar pan environment. Insertion lengths can be specified by the customer.

Remote Display & Control Box. This optional unit is interfaced with the M-614 by industrial serial communication (RS485). It provides remote indication of displayed readout as well as temperature, date, and time. Local switches or contacts can be used to change calibration profiles for different products.

Dual Sensor capability. The M-614 now has the ability to handle two measurements at the same time. Each measurement can be totally different calibrations as well as totally different sensing head designs. Each sensing head can be up to 500 meters away. This greatly reduces the cost of each point of measurement!

Model: E-Net - Process Refractometer

Revolutionary !!! The LSC E-NET Process Refractometer !!! Was just formally introduced, at the International I S A Show, McCormick Place, Chicago, IL 21-24 October, 02.

Revolutionary is the most correct term to describe it. It will surely revolutionize the way customers view, utilize and interface with an In-Line Process Control Refractometer. Employing EtherNET as the communication, no unique protocol issues are encountered. All interaction is through any standard Web Browser on the customer’s network (LAN), and/or DCS System.

For In-Line measurement and control of Concentration.... as % Solids / Brix / Refractive Index, or many other engineering terms, in all manufacturing industries.

Model 1022 = The Ultimate in Reliability

With keen focus on functional reliability - employing a truly dependable and accurate system of the highest quality - LSC again demonstrates its continual leadership and is stepping out front offering the Model 1022 Automatic Liquor Divert System. Contributing to LSC's extensive experience in the design and development of this equipment were many invaluable suggestions and mandates from several of the most prominent users/customers within the Pulp and Paper Industry. The LSC Model 1022 performs all necessary operational functions, including a number of "first ever" features, and fully complies with all recommendations of B.L.R.B.A.C.

With all hardware and software designed specifically for this application, the Model 1022 is an Automatic Liquor Divert System well ahead of its time, equally appropriate as a devoted stand alone system (operates the Divert Valve directly) or integrated with a modern DCS or Burner Management System through various discrete dry contacts.

  • Dual solids measurement dependability "Smart Wash" automatic prism wash
  • Extensive reporting capabilities - all changes/events logged with time and date Exclusive - "first-out"/sequence report
  • Redundant operational features No simple arbitrary "disable" mode
  • All automatic divert features are retained during single refractometer operation Automatically removes a refractometer from operation when deemed necessary
  • Internal display screen for settings, diagnostics/troubleshooting and history Hard copy option (printer available) of all settings, alarms, and logged events/history
  • Intelligent fluorescent display (external) located on enclosure or on operator console Fully complies with the recommendations of Black Liquor Recovery Boiler Advisory Committee

Model 725 Refractometer

Simple ... Reliable ... Compact

The LSC Model 725 Process Control Refractometer is a two piece optical/electronic measurement instrument. An in-line sensing head is employed, whereby a sensing window (commonly known as a prism) is wetted by the product to be measured. The electronics and read-out are housed in a separate enclosure located at some nominal distance from the sensing head and coupled to the sensing head by an interconnecting cable.

A unique digital microprocessor is employed which provides a truly linear digital display output regardless of the customer-product non-linearity between refractive index and the read-out terms. Virtually any non-linear refractive index curve can be corrected for, or any shape can be simply produced. For example, the micro-processor can be programmed so that the output terms are the reverse of refractive index. The output units, calibration, and correction curves can all be selected and changed easily by the customer, at will, if desired. The 4-20 mAdc output is affected in a fashion identical to the digital display.

Eliminating downtime and maintenance was the major objective of the Model 725, offering the highest level of reliability. As a result, a sapphire hemisphere is utilized for the "prism," an infrared diode is used for the light source, a dual silicon detector performs the actual measurement, and a silicon diode is used for temperature sensing. The dual silicon detector, as utilized in the Model 725, offers a fine continuous and stable reading ...eliminating the inherent problems evident with an "incremental step" detection system.
